<itunes:summary>A roundtable podcast discussing table-top roleplaying games, wargames, movies, books, television and various other topics of gamer culture.

We discuss our own perspective on the state of games, and other topics. We have a tendency to disagree with each other on various points and debate them (sometimes at length). In general , our topics are table-top RPG themed. We don’t always stay on topic and tally up our tangents on the site for each episode. We also like to incorporate listener feedback into the show (when we get it).</itunes:summary>

Are they truly “Jacks of all trades” or are they merely under-powered when compared to the prime classes?

Every year at this time we start gearing up for our favorite destination, Gen Con. We have been going for several years and have some insight on prepping for the trip.

If you have never been there before, or are Gen Con veterans, maybe some of our tips can help. Maybe not… but we love talking about the best four days in gaming.

It is an old west genre game that is beautiful in its intricacy as well as its insanity.

We constructed characters and played out a scenario for the benefit of Shawn, Shannon and Dave who’ve only heard us talk about it but never played. This episode was recorded after that scenario was completed.

<itunes:summary>“Be fair, alright. Everyone wants Mr. Toad’s wild ride.” No truer words were ever uttered in modern culture. Being one of the greatest motivators in human history, is sex given fair treatment in RPGs?

Is it skewed because of the historical demographic of the roleplaying gamer or simply a product of the fantasy/ sci-fi tropes that inspired many of the early RPGs? Is the increase of females playing the game changing that perspective?

We weigh in with our take on it.

<itunes:summary>Many moons ago, roleplaying games were begotten from strategy based miniature battles. With this background in war games, and the propensity of massive battles in many of the tropes of fantasy and sci-fi, it is not surprising when you look at a lot of older RPGs and see systems for massive battles.

Then a funny thing happened, games started going away from the complicated strategy based mass combat systems and toward abstract rules for battles.

We discuss our perspective on conducting mass combat in your RPGs.

This gives players the freedom to play the established in-game story or to pursue their own interests. In a lot of ways table-top RPGs were made for this type of gaming, but the term scares the hell out of a lot of GMs.

We take a look at this style of gaming that is becoming more and more popular with the table-top gaming community.

<itunes:summary>Late in 2011, we started the process of creating our next actual play podcast. Following in the wake of our well received Victoriana series, we wanted to take on something a little larger in scope. It was decided that we would play Star Wars Saga Edition, set it in the Old Republic and make the entire story adversarial.

One year later, having just finished final cast recording, we all sat down and discussed the meta-knowledge involved in the story.

We examine this very popular media and talk about some of the shows that the gamer sub-culture considers must-views and some of the newer shows that may inspire game play.

This recording was made after/during the cast’s celebration of Jayson and Mike’s fortieth birthdays and Greg’s new job announcement. If you notice that some are more boisterous than usual, while others are non-existent… blame the alcohol.</itunes:summary>

Ivy Nightfall and her companions are escorting a crate of unknown cargo to a nearby town. After clearing away some mysteriously felled trees, the group and their drover Kane continue along the trail to adventure (or should I say misadventure).

<itunes:summary>No, this is not about how cool my friends are and how we love the red-headed stepchild that is Promethean the Created (much to my chagrin).

The term “frankengaming” is actually used quite a bit in the video game community. It is usually theoretical mashups of different video games that people would like to see. What we do in this episode is much like that, but instead we apply it to tabletop role-playing games.

Thanks to Kevin Handling for inspiring this episode and all the great Alfie, the half-ogre, memories.

Editor’s Note:

This episode was recorded at Gen Con 2012 in one of our hotel rooms. It was decided that for comfort reasons that many of the guys would hold their mics rather than have them on a mic stands. That is why it occasionally sounds like they are fondling large balloons. Don't worry, it won't happen again.</itunes:summary>
