CONTEST ALERT!

CONTEST ALERT!

For our next Roleplay Drama we are doing Savage Worlds Conan. In honor of that, we are conducting a contest. We are asking the community to create the characters for us to play on mic. Now, we know what you are thinking… “You lazy bastards! You don’t even want to make your own characters for your own game.”

Well, that may have some truth to it but there are prizes available for the creators of characters we choose.

Now we realize that not everyone is intimately familiar with the Savage Worlds system, but that is okay. We are more interested in character concepts than fully created characters (though fully created characters will not be turned down: Veteran 40xp characters will be used in the production).

Official Rules:

Prizes-
5 Prize Winners will receive: A copy of the Savage Worlds Deluxe: Explorer’s Edition book.

1 Grand Prize Winner will receive: Muchkin Conan box, a copy of the Savage Worlds Deluxe: Explorer’s Edition book and an exclusive Gamerstable T-Shirt.

Entries -
6 Characters in total will be chosen by the cast. They will be a good mix of archetypes.

Only one or two barbarians-types will be chosen. Human races only and of Hyborian Age origin (i.e. Cimmerian, Aquilonian, Stygian)

1 Character has to be a female (Shannon doesn’t want to be a man)

Only solid character concepts will be chosen. That means that names, backgrounds, character motivations and personalities are very important. That is not to say that quirky characters will not be considered or chosen (Hey… It is us), but silly or ridiculous submissions will not.

Fully game-developed characters are not necessary.

Only 3 character submissions per person will be accepted.

The Grand Prize winner will be chosen for its completeness, creativity and usability.

Contest Dates -
Entries will be accepted from 12/13/12 through 2/3/13.

Winners will be announced 2/12/13

Please send all submissions to:

contest@gamerstable.com
Subject – Conan Submission

Be sure to include the name you want announced. Address and shirt size will be obtained via email at a later time.

Good Luck!

Do you want characters at Novice (0 XP) level, or starting as Seasoned (20 XP) or something else?

    • Gamerstable says:

For those who want to make up full characters and want more rules info:

The characters will be established in their careers so in game terms they should be Veterans (40 xp).

  2. Jayson says:

I’ll bet that Mark is working furiously on a submission that he can choose for himself.

  3. Brian says:

I wrote one so he wouldn’t have to. :)

  4. King says:

One of my new year resolutions is to play a magic user! So I’m hoping to see one here!!! So bring it on!

  5. Elderman says:

Anything else you can tell us about the campaign we’re making characters for or are you going to take inspiration from the characters who come in? I find knowing the tone and setting of a campaign (set entirely in Stygia?) sometimes helps me come up with more interesting characters.

    • Gamerstable says:

      Absolutely.

The setting (in the beginning) is Zamora. Shadizar is a very cosmopolitan area attracts the wicked, ambitious and the depraved, so characters don’t necessarily need to be local.

As for character types, the sky is the limit. The campaign will work on the themes of social depravity, cosmic corruption and the overwhelming way that man will betray their own.

      • Elderman says:

Thank you, that helps a lot, Eric. Conan’s a great setting. I’m taking my time because the deadline is still far off, but it’s been fun to think about in a low key way.

  6. HyveMynd says:

Just found out about the contest today and plan to enter, despite not being a fan of the Savage Worlds system. I do like Conan though, so I’ll give it a whirl.

If we _do_ decide to submit fully statted out characters, are there any guidelines other than the 40 XP build limit? Specific Savage World setting or splat books allowed, disallowed, etc.? Thanks.

    • Gamerstable says:

The rules being used for the characters are: Savage Worlds Deluxe core rules and Savage Worlds Fantasy Companion. Beasts and Barbarians is optional.

I cannot stress this enough though, fully game developed characters are fine but good character concepts will have equal chance to win. So don’t feel obligated to stat out a character if you don’t really wish to.

      • hyvemynd says:

Thanks for the response. Beasts & Barbarians was the book I was specifically thinking about. That’s the _only_ setting that would get me to play a Savage Worlds game again.

  7. First one has been sent your way. I’ll have my second one in by Friday. This actual play is going to rock!

  8. MonsterMike says:

Mine are in! Thanks, that was fun.
