Mash Up – Ep129

No it's not an original idea, but we talk about it anyway.
No it’s not an original idea, but we talk about it anyway.

As we say frequently, inspiration is everywhere. An exercise that we like to do is have a topic and brainstorm on mic about it.

Based on an article that Dan and Jayson read, we discuss the modern League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. This leads to a mash up campaign and then our newest in asinine ideas… Cop Game!

Loved this episode! Reminds me of my Gencon games I ran last year and this year.

Last year’s game was called the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: 2000’s, this was a zombie theme heavy game with the characters of Nacho Libre, Shaun Riley (Shaun of the Dead), The Bride (Kill Bill), Cherry Darling (Planet Terror), Machete, Lara Croft, Elvis Presley, Tallahassee & Columbus (Zombieland). The premise was Bill is back and he has the Necronomicon. It was a lot of fun.

This past year it was set in the 1990’s: with a vampire/Hellraiser theme. Here’s the long blurb:

Marsellus Wallace’s briefcase was stolen from the League’s office in a bloody battle lead by now vampire Cyrus “The Virus” Grissom. Inside holds the key to a Vampire Apocalypse that will bathe the world in continual darkness, leaving it open season on humankind. Watcher Rupert Giles quickly assembles a specialized Vampire Hunting League in order to stop Cyrus before he can bring about this cataclysm.

Can straight laced FBI Special Agent Dana Scully, wise-cracking deadite slayer Ash, ex hit-man Jules Winnfield, teenage Vampire Slayer Buffy Summers, vampire weapons expert Abraham Whistler, crude talking Vatican endorsed Vampire Slayer Jack Crow, murdering bank robber Seth Gecko and hyper-violent half-insane Wiccan practitioner Nancy Downs put their egos and differences aside to stop the end of the world from happening?

Lots of fun. Gonna do the 1980’s next year!

I find that the players really get into their characters as they already know them. They are great fun to run.

For the cop game what about Dirty harry, Leslie Nielsen (spy hard), the police academy movies, mad max, and maybe Ford Fair lane the rock n roll detective.

as for the 80;s league Rambo, chuck norris, James Blond, the beastmaster lol.

    Duke Nuke em?

I heard it mentioned, but didn’t get play: Last Action Hero
One reason alone is enough to explain it:
” Benedict: Gentlemen. Since you are about to die anyway, I may as well tell you the entire plot. Think of villains Jack. You want Dracula? Dra-cool-la? Hang on
    [takes out the ticket]
Benedict: , I’ll fetch him. Dracula? Huh. I can get King Kong! We’ll have a nightmare with Freddy Krueger, have a surprize party for Adolf Hitler, Hannibal Lecter can do the catering, and then we’ll have christening for Rosemary’s Baby! All I have to do is snap my fingers and they’ll be here. They’re lining up to get here, and do you know why Jack? Should I tell you why? Hmm? Because here, in this world, the bad guys can win!”

Hans Gruber+ Benedict equal most fantastic dynamic duo you could possibly want as antagonists. Toss in Hannibal and you have the ULTIMATE VILLIAN SUPERGROUP!!!

I would LOVE to have a game where the players KNOW the villains are smarter then they are. 🙂 SIGN ME UP
