After Character Careers – Ep136

This is what happens when you don't have an end-game in mind for your characters.
This is what happens when you don’t have an end-game in mind for your characters.

One of the things we love to do is speculate what our characters are “doing now”, meaning what they are doing after we are done with them. Though we have done this all our gaming careers, we never realized the story building opportunity it could be.

If you have some input on this, leave a comment here, via email or on our Facebook page.

Like this episode as it reminds me of some of your earlier ones. I’ve always been cautious as to the disposal of character sheets. I feel that so much time was invested into these things that it is simply sad to have them discarded. I often NPC out old characters, but rarely ever in the fore-front. In my opinion, the player who made that character loved often knows more about how he or she would react then I would and I don’t want to do them a disservice to the memory. In some rare cases, a beloved character was known enough that we can use him elsewhere, but I still prefer them to be somehow occupied or indisposed rather then be on the front lines.

I sometimes find old character sheets hidden in books I buy from used bookstores. I adore these moments, because some one adored and treasured this fictional creation years ago… lived lives… and may now be long forgotten to everyone including its owner. I’ve always pictured tracking them down one day and presenting them with a fragment of their past. Like an old lover, forgotten day by day, that suddenly crosses your path.

I’m either a romantic or a complete stalker waiting to freak you out by exposing your nerdish history.
