Decipher’s Lord of the Rings the Rings RPG had rules for Heroic Items in which you had:
-Masterwork items which were slightly better then regular items
-The Work of Old which were created in Ancient times and probably had powerful magic woven into their creation.

And you could also have an item with a lineage, and this could add bonuses to dam, attack, or even skill uses. Like a Orcrist and Glamdring which have histories with the Goblins and are immediately recognized as weapons that should be feared (ie a bonus to intimidation). It is one of my favourite gear sections in any RPG book that I have seen.

    Hackmaster correction.

You have mentioned the two versions of Hackmaster in various episodes but Dan keeps mis-remembering the editions.

4th edition Hackmaster is the first real iteration of the game and was a comical yet entirely playable parody of 1st and 2nd edition D&D.

5th edition Hackmaster is the current very gritty and enormously fun to play version of the game.

    Sorry to nitpick.
