Names – Ep60

... and I shall name him... RICK!!

Like the perfect ascot (or other necessary accessory) brings an outfit together, the name you give a character can complete them in a way that the total package is memorable for years to come. The reverse of that, the wrong name can ruin even the most brilliantly planned and rounded character.

We discuss some the naming conventions that we have used in the past and some that we plan to use in the future.

Romance – Ep59

Flirting With Mike
We can't quit ya, Mike!

As in real life, romance can be a profound enhancement to a character’s life. Adding that dynamic can change a blah game into a truly emotionally charged campaign. The problem is that romantic hooks are difficult to implement without feeling contrived.

We look at some aspects of this often ignored and/or misused tool of collaborative storytelling.

Broken Arrow – Ep58

Hold ‘em or fold ‘em, that is the question.

Just like many groups of people that have spent any length of time together, we have developed our own jargon. One instance of this is the “Broken Arrow”.

Derived from the movie of the same name, it means a no-win situation that is so desperate there is virtually no recovering it. It can happen at any time and completely ruin a game, campaign or even a gaming group.

In this episode, we discuss some of our favorite and most tragic, Broken Arrow moments.
