Playing the Monsters – Ep81

A game of intense social interaction and kicking some ass.

Players playing monsters used to be a DM’s nightmare. Then came games like Vampire the Masquerade and Werewolf the Apocalypse, where you could do just that and redefined the horror genre of gaming forever.

Now, twenty years later, people are still playing the monsters and loving it.

Werewolf the Apocalypse 20th anniversary Kickstarter can be found here.

    Hi Guys,

I love the show, but there is something slowing the download from your site. I have cable internet, but seem to break the 50KB/sec download speed, and it stalls every 30 seconds or so. Every other site I visit, I get a minimum of at least 150KB or better speed, but I can’t listen, if I can’t download the show.

    Thanks for listening.

For some reason, we occasionally get this. Although our hosting service claims there is nothing on their end, I cannot say that I believe it 100%.

That said, we have several other avenues in which to listen to episodes.

In addition to subscribing to our RSS, we can be found on iTunes, Windows Marketplace, Stitcher and also Spreaker. If for some reason you cannot download from our site, please try one of these as an alternate.

We even have dedicated Spreaker channels on our “Listen Now” page right here on the website. Our Last 10 Episodes channel features just that. So that also is an alternative.

Thanks for the heads up and please do not hesitate to do so in the future.

The PC game is Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2. They were working on a 3, but it was canceled for some reason. I’ve got 2 and always enjoyed playing it but I recently tried to play it again but if I remember correctly, it’s not compatible with XP, which is the OS I use on my game PC.

I really enjoyed the sounds that the various creatures made in the game and the cut scenes too!

Also to note, in the book Inferno for the NWoD there is rules for player demons (via possession) and a new Demon game is slated for next year.

Also almost all splats have factions that revolve around interacting with the other supernatural types. You could all play the party that is the mediators/police when things between splats get out of control.

New werewolf would work better with what you want, and new werewolf is more focused on territory and keeping the balance between the spirit world and the human world.

Nice work on this episode. Very interesting podcast & liking all the different talk on many of the other game systems out there like werewolf that I liked the look of but never got to play. As someone who’s playing off & on some of Call of Cthulhu, I’d like to direct you one recent audio play recording of a Call of Cthulhu game (Life After Death link below) done where the main cast of players are essentially the darker end of the character spectrum & they did a fairly good job with keeping it interesting for this investigative/storytelling rpg. Keep up the great work everyone!
