Victoriana Review – Ep39

Steampunk Shadowrun... I'm Sold!

Victoriana is a Victorian era RPG produced by Cubicle 7. Our first experience with the game was at GenCon 2010 and then again at GenCon 2011. Based on that, we decided to have a quick taste of the game (we also recorded our sessions ).

In this episode we talk about that experience and our take on the newest game in our repertoire.

Great episode. I really liked the actual-play recordings of Victoriana. The system did sound a tad bit fiddly at times, but you seemed to have no trouble resolving all the actions smoothly.

There’s a new edition of Gaslight Cthulhu coming out this year, by the way. It looks promising.

This was a fun episode. Victoriana strikes me as one of those games that doesn’t make it to the table as much as it probably should. I have always been curious about it, so I leaned in as I listened to your discussion.

I also love how you learned as you played. This is the type of AP – this and edited AP like Scott Dunphy does – that I could listen to and enjoy.

As I write this, I am working on the follow-up.

As for when? That is a good question. I am hoping for a March record, but it is ultimately a group decision when to put our current D and D game on hold.

The term Jayson was searching for regarding ambient sounds and such, is foley artist.

Fantastic episode, fun setting. Hoping to use it to sell some friends who do cosplay to get them in to table top RPGs.

Would love a follow up on the story!
